Remediation of industrial tanks

Remediation of "Gas Free" tanks

Ecosys specializes in the remediation of "Gas Free" tanks. Always performed with equipment, devices and procedures that comply with safety standards, it allows to obtain excellent results, performed in a workmanlike manner and without any risk for operators and the territory.

C.O.W. (Crude Oil Washing)

The system used is based on the COW (Crude Oil Washing) technology, a mobile plant that crushes and dissolves the hydrocarbon part present in the foundations lying in the tanks to be reclaimed.

The crushing takes place mechanically by means of special rotating nozzle injectors which, placed on the roof of the tank to be cleaned, direct jets of fluid at a pressure of approximately 7kg / cm2 over the entire internal surface.

Solubilization takes place chemically by means of fresh oil on the foundations. The process can be optimized by using a heat exchanger that heats the fluid to be injected.

At the end of the washing cycle with oil, a passage with hot water is carried out which brings further oily fractions to float to be extracted. In this phase the extracted fluid is made to pass through a caisson where the separation between water and oil is subsequently carried out.

Only at the end of washing do manholes open and forced ventilation is carried out to remove the vapors present, thus making it possible for personnel to enter the tank for manual removal of residues.

The "Gas Free" tank remediation system with COW requires much shorter times than those required by manual remediation and is mainly used in the following applications:
  • tanks containing fuel oils
  • tanks containing crude oil
  • tanks containing asphalt or bitumen.
The Crude Oil Washing technology has several advantages in terms of safety: the operations are carried out without personnel entering the tank, with the exception of final cleaning. Furthermore, the system guarantees a safe descent of the roof. The sleeves of the roof support are used for the assembly of the injectors and the maximum number used is 25% of the total, which guarantees the maintenance of static safety conditions.

The atmosphere inside the tank is analyzed throughout the process to verify the explosive conditions and the plant is equipped with an analyzer connected in real time to the alarm control unit.

Finally, to maintain the maximum level of safety, the tank is inerted.

The COW system also guarantees the recovery of over 98% of the hydrocarbon fraction present in the sludge, with a consequent reduction in the ancillary costs of treatment and disposal of residues.

Manual remediation with hydraulic traction Bob Cat

With the use of a Bob Cat with hydraulic traction, work can be carried out safely in confined spaces containing explosive mixtures. The Bob Cat is lowered into the tank and used safely thorough cleaning and reclamation.
